5 - Part 1 - Color Tones and Shades - Tasks 2 and 3
Color Tones and Shades
In the quiz you took previously, you had to identify the color with a different tone / shade.
Tones and shades are the variations in colors, making them darker/lighter.
We usually give them names to make it easier for us to describe them.
Task 2 (part 1)
How many colors can you see?
Are they all the same? Why not?
How would you describe them?
Access your copy of your online notebook to do this task.
Look at the variations of yellow below and describe them on page 3.
To make the process of identifying different tones and shades, we give them different names, even if they are the same color.
Example:
She is wearing a baby pink shirt, salmon pink shorts, and rose pink sandals.
Task 2 (part 2)
From looking at these names/variations of the color pink in the examples, can you try and guess how shade/tone names are formed?
Write down your guesses in your online notebook, page 3 (left side, task 2 part 2).
When you finish, come back here and do task 3:
Go back to task 2 and rewrite your guesses about the color yellow;
Or
Look around you and describe with more details (using tones and shades) the place you’re in.
Or
Choose something to describe using shades and colors. Ex.: The cover of a book, what you see from your window, your bedroom, etc.
Do the activity of your choice for task 3 on page 4.
To Reflect
*Knowing shades/tones helps us be more specific when describing things, for example.
Can you think of situations or other things to describe? Ex.: food/electronics...
